Common questions
How is the score worked out?
Base depth, new snow, open lifts, the freeze level, wind and visibility, weighted for your skill level, into one call out of 100. A missing input lowers confidence, and the page says so.
Where does the data come from?
Resort snow reports, BOM and MetService observations, Open-Meteo forecast models, lift feeds and road authorities. Every page lists its sources in the footer, and how each one is reading.
Why does it sometimes say "can't call it"?
When a resort hasn't posted base depth or lift status we won't put a number on it. The forecast and live weather are still on the page, so you can read it yourself.
Is it free?
Yes. Snowbies is free to use, with no account.
Does it cover Japan?
Japan is on the map with season dates for Niseko, Hakuba, Nozawa, Furano, Myoko and Rusutsu. Live snow reports and lift feeds for Japan are not on yet.
Is there an app?
Not yet. The site works on your phone today and can be added to your home screen. The app is coming.
